Log's Second Album - Tsunami Magazine

By Brad Larter

Back with their sophomore effort, this Canberra/Wollongong six-piece wade their way through a punishing sonic experiment in excessive, down-trodden heaviness. The wild, unbridled energy of the blues harp on the opening instrumental track is the deep breath before Log takes the plunge into rough-hewn boogie riffs of ‘Dirt House Boogie’. The compressed energy of tunes like ‘Beef Porridge’ works a steady, choogling backbeat, while Karl’s rasped vocals range from high-pitched moans to low, lung-bleeding growls and barks. ‘Swamp Shanty’ is a lazy crawl of a song, but is still just as pummeling as the tunes that precede it.
